Topdressing a lawn can mean many things.
For our purposes, it is the process of adding a layer of organic compost to the surface of the lawn.
Why would you topdress your lawn?
There are a few reasons.
- You are simply getting some good organic goodness onto the ground. Your flowers and shrubs all love a bit of compost, and the same applies to grass. It is after all a plant!
- Secondly if your soil isn’t the best, aerating then applying a topdressing will get some of the goodness into the ground helping change up the structure so that it is a more inviting place for roots to grow.
- Thirdly, topdressing is used to level out any humps and bumps. Usually a different blend of materials will be used, typically sandy soil, or sandy loam.
