Scarification is a process we undertake to help improve your lawn.
It is a machine which rakes out layers of dead thatch in the lawn (old grass that has built up like a thatched roof).
Although it is quite invasive, and can leave lawns looking messy for a few weeks, the end results are more than worth it.
If a lawn is scarified regular then it will only need a typical scarify. These types of scarify remove thatch and leave the lawn looking fairly good. Within 2 to 3 weeks they look great usually.
If a lawn has not been scarified for quite some time then it will need a heavier scarification to remove the deeper thicker layers of thatch. Unfortunately you will often have some grass shoots removed, and may have a few small fairly bare areas. These can simply be overseeded and with proper care you will see new grass coming through in 1 to 2 weeks.
Heavier scarifies will need more TLC to help with recovery but you can expect to see a nicer lawn in around 6 to 8 weeks. If you maintain good lawn care then deeper heavier scarifies may not always be needed.
